Fionnuala Halligan and The Art of Movie Storyboards

Study the questions that a book about storyboards can raise: how planning images communicate, how examples are selected, and what a filmed scene changes. This is a reading guide rather than an interview transcript.

Ask how a board is used

Identify what the drawing clarifies for a collaborator: framing, action, staging, or movement. Its purpose shapes the kind of detail it needs.

Compare different drawing voices

A schematic panel and a highly rendered image may both communicate effectively. Evaluate their information and reading speed rather than ranking them by finish alone.

Connect planning and result

When a corresponding scene is available, compare timing and viewpoint. Note changes without assuming that variation means the plan failed.
