The New Street Photographer's Manifesto

Street photography is a practice of attention in shared space. Build a visual approach that respects people and explains why a moment, gesture, or relationship deserves a picture.

Choose an observation

Look for a repeated relationship such as people and signs, reflected movement, or changing shadows. A specific question gives your walk structure without requiring strangers to perform for you.

Respect the situation

Consider vulnerability, privacy, and the effect of your presence. When appropriate, ask permission or make a different photograph. A technically possible picture is not automatically a considerate one.

Edit beyond the single frame

Sequence images to show variation in your chosen observation. Remove photographs that rely on a caption to turn an ordinary gesture into a misleading claim.
