Shooting Models

A model session works best when the visual brief, communication, and practical arrangements support one another. Clear expectations make it easier to concentrate on expression, movement, and composition.

Prepare a small brief

Choose a few reference qualities such as light direction, mood, and framing. Discuss them with the model rather than asking for a literal imitation. Agree the intended use of the photographs and any boundaries before capture.

Give useful direction

Offer an action or a point of attention instead of a string of tiny pose corrections. Watch how the whole body changes, and keep the model comfortable during pauses.

Review continuity

Check clothing, background edges, and changing light between frames. Select images that fulfil the brief while preserving the subject's presence rather than only matching a predetermined outline.
