Ask what lies outside the frame or in shadow. Compare that absence with what the text promises. Suspense often depends on the tension between a visible detail and an incomplete explanation.
Observe the viewing position
A low angle, doorway, or cropped figure can make the viewer feel like a witness. Note how the composition assigns this position before judging the scene's dramatic intensity.
Compare cover and story
A cover may compress an atmosphere rather than depict a literal event. Read its typography and framing as part of a persuasive design, then compare those promises with the narrative if available.
