Comic Book Design

Comic book design connects panels, lettering, page turns, and the physical reading object. Study how these parts direct attention before treating the page as a collection of illustrations.

Place the reading path

Trace the route between panels and speech balloons. If the eye hesitates, adjust placement or contrast. The intended sequence should remain legible without numbered instructions.

Give lettering space

Plan balloons alongside the drawing. Their size and placement affect pacing and can hide essential action if left until the end. Check the dialogue at the intended printed size.

Use the page turn

Decide what the reader knows before turning and what is revealed afterwards. A strong transition makes the page boundary part of the storytelling.
