Alan Moore: Storyteller — Reading and Recorded Discussion

Compare written accounts of comics practice with the form of a recorded discussion. This guide offers questions for examining a recording you can access; it does not supply a transcript or an unavailable video.

Separate statement and framing

A speaker's words and the edit around them create different kinds of emphasis. Note whether a cut, caption, or inserted image changes how a statement is received.

Follow the example

If a work or page is discussed, inspect it independently where available. Ask how much the spoken account explains and what remains visible only in the example.

Keep a precise note

Record the source and location of a statement for your own study. Do not turn a paraphrase into an exact quotation or assume that a short excerpt represents a whole conversation.
